The 3rd Annual Sierra Summer Star Party will be tentatively held at the Alpine County Airport in the Eastern Sierras south-east of Lake Tahoe from Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23, 2009. Check back for more information as we figure it all out.

Though not mandatory (we'd rather have you there!), we are requesting a $15.00 donation to cover to offset government fees and facility expenses.

One ticket covers an astronomer and their family plus any non-astronomer guests (the more, the merrier!).

Indian Creek Reservoir Camp Site (5 minutes away)

There are rooms and restaurants in Markleevile and Woodfords, both approximately 15 minutes from the event location. The casino hotels at South Lake Tahoe are approximately 45 minutes away.

Besides the usual star party "rules" such as no annoying pets, NO MUSIC, TV, or RADIO (you wouldn't believe...), no irritating lights, etc. the following are some policies specific to the Sierra Summer Star Party:

1. Alpine County Policies require that the event be non-smoking on the airport grounds and the surrounding forested areas.
2. Attendance is limited to 75 participants.
3. A ticket is required to park and set up on the airport apron. The telescopes will be set up on the south portion of the apron and general parking will be on the north end of the apron.
4. There will be no encroachment or blocking of the airport runway strip or aircraft ramps.
5. In the unlikely event that there will be an aircraft landing, the aircraft will have right of way and access to the north half of the apron.
6. Any and all waste will be removed.
7. NO campfires will be allowed.
8. The area must be cleared of all people, equipment, cars, trash, etc. by 6:00PM om Sunday, Septemeber 28.
